This day flew by! With meetings, Gladiator and chocolate what should have a been a long and tedious day is already over and I'm glad to be going home.
With 2010 barreling down on me like a freight train I am looking forward to the end of 2009... not in a negative "Thank God it's over" but in a "wow whats next" way... come on 2010 I'm ready for you ^_^

Time and people are precious
... as things go in the world of IT my faithful work horse started blue screening the other day, only twice in one week, but concerning nonetheless.
My first port of call was the Tech Dept. and the advice was sage and equally obvious; "Get your important documents into a network fileserver to protect against losing them".
However my old email .pst file weighed in at a healthy 4 gigs so I took the time to clear out the "rubbish" emails... thing is it turns out they were not so "rubbish" after all.
Sure they weren't work related but they were also far from unimportant, it was a real trip down memory lane as I cleaned out those folders, some from as far back as 2004.
I had some chuckles over silly jokes, wondered how I had lost touch with some people and rejoiced over rediscovering them, made mental (and some digital) notes on children’s names, special days and generally pulled my head out own arse and connected with the people and memories that make up my life experience.
It's true that "the whole is only as great as the sum of its parts" so take a hold of the time you have and use it to remember your life and reach out to those people who had a role to play in who you are today...
... guess I'm asking you to "remember to remember"...

Whats Odd About This Pic? "Tattoo Fail"
Having been in the tattoo industry for a few years this photo on Lamebook.com really caught my attention... it's one thing to mark yourself with a 'gangsta-esque' inspirational tattoo but this one is special...

Wikipedia for the Win
Whether you’re love it or hate, feel it is the greatest tool ever created or feel it is "their" tool to spread subversive and dangerous misinformation the fact of the matter is that Wikipedia is growing exponentially in users, contributors and sheer volumes of data every single day (please see hyperbole for more on this statement).
The major win for me in this whole saga is that Jimmy Wales has proven himself to be a man of his word, he said he would never charge a fee for the services Wikipedia provides and he hasn’t… plus he hasn’t bloated it with advertising.
With this in mind here’s my contribution to the save thewhale wikipiedia cause… if you use the site or at least buy into Jimmy’s “Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet has free access to the sum of all human knowledge.” vision** then be sure to show your support by donating at: wikimediafoundation.org

** it’s a little too “I have a dream” for me but I use the site like you do… so show some love and some cash!
Play it again Sam...
I was signing up at Blogspot, oops Blogger, and had a real sense of déjà vu… being a creature of habit I dug up my old usernames and lo and behold Slochlin was still alive and kicking.
I’ve turfed out the old nonsense and theme and will be trying to give it some new life… here’s hoping for the best.
Oh and I've been trying to buy into the sales hype around Twitter so...
